How to Apply for a DHA Licence Online in 2026: Step by Step from Sheryan Self-Assessment and Registration to Primary Source Verification, the Prometric Exam, Eligibility Letter and Licence Activation, with Documents, Fees and Timelines

The complete DHA licence application process for nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dentists and allied health in 2026, step by step: the free Sheryan self-assessment, creating your Sheryan account, submitting the application and documents, paying for the DHA DataFlow package, receiving exam eligibility, booking and passing the Prometric exam, the eligibility letter, employer activation and licence issuance, with the documents, fees in USD and AED, timelines, common rejections and what to do if your application is returned.

Applying for a Dubai Health Authority licence is done entirely online through the Sheryan licensing system, and you can do it yourself before you have a job offer. The process has seven steps, and most delays come from one of three mistakes: applying for the wrong title, uploading documents that do not match the passport name, and starting DataFlow with an expired registration. This guide walks through each step in order with the documents, fees and timelines for 2026. Profession-specific requirements are in the DHA guides for nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dentists, physiotherapists, lab technologists and radiographers.

Before you start: documents to have ready

  • Passport (valid for at least six months) and a passport-size photograph on a white background.
  • Degree certificate and transcript; internship certificate where applicable; postgraduate certificates for specialists.
  • Home registration or licence (current) and a Good Standing certificate issued within the last six months (Good Standing guide).
  • Experience certificates with exact dates, unit and duties on employer letterhead, covering at least the last two years (format guide).
  • BLS certificate (and ACLS or PALS for some titles), and IELTS or OET only where the title requires it.
  • Certified English translations of any document not in English or Arabic; names must match the passport exactly on every document.

Scan everything as clear PDFs under the Sheryan size limit before you begin; the common mistakes are listed in why applications are rejected.

Step 1: Run the free Sheryan self-assessment

On the Sheryan portal, the self-assessment asks your profession, qualification, registration and experience and tells you which DHA title you appear to qualify for (for example Registered Nurse, General Practitioner, Specialist). It is free, takes about ten minutes and is the single best way to avoid paying for DataFlow against the wrong title. If it says "not eligible", the reasons are usually under two years of experience, a practice gap over two years, a qualification shorter than the title requires or an expired registration (Sheryan self-assessment guide). Our own eligibility check gives the same answer across all Gulf authorities.

Step 2: Create your Sheryan account

Register as a new user with your passport details, email and mobile number, verify the email and log in. Use the exact name spelling on your passport; the account name becomes the name on your licence and cannot be changed easily later (Sheryan registration guide).

Step 3: Submit the licence application

Choose "Apply for a new licence" (professional licensing), select your profession and the title from the self-assessment, enter your qualifications, registration and employment history exactly as on your documents, upload the scans and submit. DHA charges an application or evaluation fee at this stage (a few hundred dirhams, about USD 50 to 110). The application is reviewed in about one to two weeks; if returned, the comment explains what is missing, and you resubmit through the same application rather than starting a new one.

Step 4: Pay for the DHA DataFlow package (primary source verification)

Once the application is accepted, Sheryan directs you to the DataFlow portal to pay for verification of your degree, registration and experience (about USD 220 to 340 for a standard file, more with extra documents). DataFlow contacts each issuing institution directly; the report takes about four to eight weeks for most countries and longer where universities or councils respond slowly. If you already hold a DataFlow report for another Gulf authority, request a transfer rather than a new verification (DataFlow guide). A "negative" or "insufficient" component is the commonest cause of delay (report status guide).

Step 5: Receive exam eligibility and book the Prometric exam

When the DataFlow report is positive and DHA has reviewed it, Sheryan shows your exam eligibility with the exam code (for example RNT0312 for registered nurses, GEN5331 for GPs). Book the exam on the Prometric website using the DHA programme and your eligibility ID, pay the exam fee (about USD 220 to 300 depending on the title) and choose a centre and date; seats in India, the Philippines and Pakistan fill several weeks ahead in recruitment season (how to register, exam dates and booking). Candidates with tier-1 licences and experience may be marked exempt at this step and skip to the eligibility letter (exemptions).

Step 6: Pass the exam and receive the eligibility letter

The exam is 100 to 150 MCQs in 2 to 3 hours with a pass mark of about 60% for most titles (DHA passing score by profession). Prepare with the exam bank for your code (chapter 1 is free on every bank, browse exams) and the plan in how to pass the DHA exam first attempt. After a pass, DHA issues the eligibility letter on Sheryan, usually within one to two weeks, which is valid for a defined period (commonly one year) during which an employer must activate it.

Step 7: Employer activation and licence issuance

A DHA-licensed facility adds you as an employee on Sheryan, uploads the employment contract and pays the licence issuance fee (about USD 270 to 820 depending on the title, usually paid by the employer). DHA issues the professional licence, after which the employer processes the employment visa, medical fitness test and Emirates ID. With an eligibility letter in hand, employer activation takes one to three weeks.

Common reasons applications are returned

  • Wrong title selected (for example Specialist on a diploma qualification, or Registered Nurse with under two years of experience).
  • Name mismatch between passport, degree and registration, or missing certified translation.
  • Good Standing older than six months at review.
  • Experience certificates without dates, duties or letterhead, or experience in a facility DataFlow cannot verify.
  • A practice gap over two years without explanation.
  • Expired home registration at the time of DataFlow.

Track the application status on Sheryan and respond to comments promptly; the status meanings are explained in tracking your application.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a DHA licence without a job offer?

Yes. You complete the self-assessment, application, DataFlow and exam yourself and receive an eligibility letter; an employer activates it into a licence later.

How long does the DHA licence application take?

About three to five months from application to eligibility letter with complete documents, most of it DataFlow; employer activation adds one to three weeks.

How much does it cost to apply for a DHA licence?

About USD 500 to 750 self-paid before a job offer (application, DataFlow and one exam attempt); licence issuance is usually paid by the employer.

Is the DHA application the same for nurses and doctors?

The steps are identical; the title, documents and exam code differ, and consultants may face an interview instead of an exam.

What happens if my DHA application is returned?

Sheryan shows a comment explaining what is missing; correct it and resubmit through the same application rather than creating a new one.
