Approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free basic-plus-allowance ranges for a registered (staff) nurse, built from the registered nurse bands in our salary data with the experience factors used in our salary calculator (0.9 for 0 to 2 years, 1.0 for 3 to 5, 1.15 for 6 to 10, 1.3 for 10 or more). Most Gulf authorities require two years of experience, so entry-band offers apply mainly to nurses with exactly two years or to private employers. Always go by the offer letter.

Government versus private
| Employer type | Where a staff nurse sits in the band | What is on top |
|---|---|---|
| Government and tertiary (DHA and SEHA hospitals, Hamad, Saudi MOH, military and Aramco, Kuwait MOH) | Upper half | Provided accommodation or an allowance, transport, annual ticket, 30 to 45 days' leave, medical cover, gratuity; shift and specialty allowances |
| Large private hospital groups | Middle | Housing allowance common, faster hiring, overtime available |
| Clinics, polyclinics and home care | Lower half | Fewer allowances; many first Gulf jobs |
Specialised nurses (ICU, emergency, OR, NICU, dialysis, cath lab, oncology) earn 25 to 40% above the staff band at every experience level, and charge nurses and educators 30 to 60% above.
BSc versus GNM and diploma nurses
The bands above are for registered nurses, which in the Gulf means a BSc Nursing (or a three-year diploma accepted as RN by that authority) with registration and experience. GNM and diploma nurses are classified as registered nurses by DHA, MOHAP, DOH, QCHP, NHRA and OMSB with two years of experience, but as Nurse Technicians by SCFHS, where the band is SAR 3,000 to 5,500; some tertiary hospitals hire degree nurses only (GNM nurses guide). Assistant nurse and nurse technician bands across the Gulf are in the assistant nurse set and the salary calculator.
What a staff nurse typically sends home
| Country | With provided accommodation (mid-band) | Renting privately |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | SAR 4,500 to 5,000 | SAR 3,000 to 4,000 |
| Qatar | QAR 5,000 to 6,000 | QAR 3,500 to 4,500 |
| Kuwait | KWD 380 to 450 | KWD 200 to 300 |
| UAE (Dubai) | AED 4,000 to 5,400 | AED 2,000 to 3,500 |
| Bahrain and Oman | BHD or OMR 320 to 450 | BHD or OMR 200 to 300 |
Accommodation is the most important line in any offer; a nurse with housing in Saudi Arabia or Qatar often sends home more than a nurse renting in Dubai on a higher salary. Check every offer against what to check before accepting.

How to move up the staff nurse ladder
- Get two years in a 100-bed-plus hospital before applying, which places you in the 3 to 5 year band rather than the entry band.
- Specialise early in ICU, emergency, OR, NICU or dialysis with current BLS and ACLS.
- Be exam-ready: the Prometric registered nurse paper is the same blueprint across the Gulf (Registered Nurse bank, free sample questions).
- Use the two-step move: a first Gulf job in Saudi Arabia, Oman or the Northern Emirates, then Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Qatar with Gulf experience and a transferable DataFlow report, which typically adds 20 to 30% for the same grade.
- Collect certifications and a BSc if you hold a diploma; bridging programmes lift SCFHS classification from technician to specialist.
