QCHP (DHP) Licence for Dentists, Pharmacists and Physiotherapists in Qatar 2026: Requirements, Who Opens the File, DataFlow, the Prometric Exam, Fees, Timeline, Exemptions and Employers

How dentists, pharmacists and physiotherapists get licensed by Qatar's Department of Healthcare Professions (QCHP/DHP) in 2026: eligibility by qualification and experience, why the employer opens the file, the documents and DataFlow step, the Prometric exam content and 60% pass mark, fees in USD and QAR, the 10 to 20 week timeline, exam exemptions, common refusals, employers in Qatar and the salaries to expect.

Qatar's Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP), still universally called QCHP, licenses every dentist, pharmacist and physiotherapist in the country through one process: an employer-opened file, DataFlow verification, a Prometric exam and licence issuance. The nursing and physician routes have their own guides (QCHP for nurses, QCHP requirements overview); this one covers the three professions that most often ask us whether their degree and experience qualify.

Who opens the file

Unlike the UAE and Bahrain, QCHP does not let individuals apply directly: a licensed Qatari employer (Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Sidra, a private hospital, dental clinic, pharmacy or rehabilitation centre) or its authorised recruiter opens the evaluation file on the DHP portal after making a conditional offer. The practical sequence is therefore: get the offer, then the employer opens the file, then DataFlow, then the exam. You can prepare for the exam before you have an offer, and employers prefer candidates who can show they are ready.

Documents

  • Passport and photograph.
  • Degree certificate and transcript, internship certificate, and postgraduate certificates for specialists.
  • Home registration or licence and a Good Standing certificate issued within six months (Good Standing guide).
  • Experience certificates with exact dates, hours and duties on employer letterhead (format guide).
  • Attestation of the degree by the home Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Qatar embassy, usually required for the visa and employer file (attestation guide).
  • Non-Arabic and non-English documents need certified translation.
  • BLS certification is commonly required by employers for dentists and physiotherapists.

DataFlow

DataFlow primary source verification of the degree, registration and experience is the longest step, commonly six to ten weeks. If you already hold a DataFlow report for another Gulf authority, it can be transferred to QCHP rather than repeated, saving weeks and most of the fee (DataFlow guide). An "insufficient" or negative component (unverifiable employer, mismatched dates) is the commonest cause of delay; the report status guide explains the fixes.

The QCHP Prometric exam

ProfessionContentFormat
General DentistRestorative and endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery and oral medicine, paediatric dentistry and orthodontics, radiology, pharmacology, infection control and ethics, with clinical imagesAbout 150 MCQs, up to three hours, pass mark about 60%
PharmacistPharmacology and therapeutics, clinical pharmacy and patient counselling, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmaceutics and compounding, pharmacy law and controlled drugs, drug information and ethicsAbout 100 to 150 MCQs, two to three hours, pass mark about 60%
PhysiotherapistMusculoskeletal, neurological, cardiorespiratory and paediatric rehabilitation, electrotherapy and exercise prescription, assessment and outcome measures, ethics and safetyAbout 100 to 150 MCQs, two to three hours, pass mark about 60%

The exam is booked at any Prometric centre worldwide once DHP releases eligibility, so most candidates sit it at home in India, Egypt, the Philippines or Pakistan. Three attempts are usually allowed per eligibility, with retake fees and a waiting period. Prepare with the General Dentist bank, the Pharmacist bank or the Physiotherapist bank (three timed mocks each, free chapter 1) and the Qatar-specific practice plan in QCHP practice questions online; free sample sets: dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists. Timeline

From the employer opening the file to licence in hand typically takes 10 to 20 weeks: one to two weeks for file review, six to ten weeks for DataFlow, two to four weeks to book and sit the exam, and one to two weeks for licence issuance after the pass. Holding a transferable DataFlow report and being exam-ready can cut this to eight to ten weeks.

Exemptions

Dentists, pharmacists and physiotherapists with a current licence and recent experience from recognised systems (commonly the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and some European states) may be exempted from the exam at evaluation; a current licence from another Gulf authority with Gulf experience is also increasingly accepted. Exemption is decided by the evaluator on the verified file, never promised by an agent (exemptions guide).

Why applications are refused or delayed

  • Degree from an institution not listed in recognised directories, or a programme shorter than the minimum.
  • Experience under two years, not recent, or in an unlicensed clinic that DataFlow cannot verify.
  • Good Standing older than six months or from the wrong council.
  • Specialist title claimed on a diploma or short course rather than a full postgraduate degree.
  • Name or date mismatches between passport, degree and registration.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a QCHP licence without a job offer?

No. A licensed Qatari employer opens the file after a conditional offer; you can prepare for the exam and complete DataFlow for another authority beforehand.

What is the pass mark for the QCHP exam for dentists, pharmacists and physiotherapists?

About 60% for each title, with three attempts usually allowed per eligibility.

How long does a QCHP licence take?

Typically 10 to 20 weeks from the opening of the file, most of it DataFlow verification.

Does a Pakistani Pharm.D or DPT qualify in Qatar?

Yes. The Pharm.D qualifies for the Pharmacist title and the DPT for the Physiotherapist title (not a physician title), with registration and about two years of experience.

Is QCHP the same as DHP?

Yes. The Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners became the Department of Healthcare Professions within the Ministry of Public Health; the process is unchanged and both names are in use.
