Midwife Salary in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain 2026: Monthly Pay by Country and Employer, Compared with Registered Nurses, in AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, USD, INR and PHP
What midwives earn across the Gulf in 2026: monthly salary bands for registered midwives in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain in local currency, USD, INR and PHP, government versus private hospital packages, how midwife pay compares with registered nurse pay, why many midwives are licensed and paid as nurses, what moves you up the band, and how to check an offer.
Midwifery is one of the few Gulf titles where the licence you hold changes your pay band, because many internationally trained midwives are licensed as registered nurses working in maternity, while others hold a dedicated midwife licence. This guide gives the midwife bands by country and employer, compares them with registered nurse pay, and explains which licence to aim for. The job route is in how to get a midwife job.

| UAE | AED 5,000 to 9,000 | AED 5,000 to 10,000 |
| Saudi Arabia | SAR 4,500 to 8,000 | SAR 4,500 to 8,000 |

| Bahrain and Oman | 350 to 650 | 400 to 800 |
Midwives are paid at or slightly below the registered nurse band in most of the Gulf, because many hospitals grade midwives on the nursing scale. The exceptions are the large maternity hospitals (for example Latifa Hospital in Dubai, Corniche Hospital in Abu Dhabi, the Women's Wellness and Research Center in Doha and the maternity hospitals in Riyadh and Jeddah), where midwife-led units pay specialist allowances, and the UK, Irish, Australian and Dutch-trained midwives recruited for them, who often negotiate above the band. Nurse bands by country are in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
By employer type
| Employer | Pay and package |
|---|---|
| Government maternity and women's hospitals | Top of the band; housing or allowance, tickets, medical cover, gratuity; shift and specialist allowances for labour ward and midwife-led units |
| Large private hospital groups with maternity units | Middle of the band; housing allowance common; higher delivery volumes and faster hiring |
| Small private hospitals and clinics | Lower half of the band; antenatal and postnatal clinic work; less overtime |
| Home care and lactation services | Hourly or per-visit; growing in the UAE and Qatar; usually requires a UAE or Qatar licence first |
Which licence should a midwife hold?
- Dedicated midwife licence (DHA, DOH, MOHAP, SCFHS, QCHP, NHRA all issue one): required for independent midwifery scope, midwife-led units and most government maternity posts. Direct-entry midwives (BSc Midwifery without a nursing degree) can only hold this licence. The exam is the midwifery paper (Registered Midwife bank, sample questions).
- Registered nurse licence working in maternity: common for nurse-midwives (GNM or BSc Nursing plus midwifery), paid on the nursing scale, with more flexibility to move between units. The exam is the nursing paper.
- Both: nurse-midwives with a nursing degree and a recognised midwifery qualification can apply for the midwife title and keep the option to work as a nurse; the authority decides the title from your file. The eligibility rules are in the midwives and assistant nurses guide and the authority pages (DHA, SCFHS, QCHP).
What moves you up the band
- Labour ward and high-risk experience: intrapartum, obstetric high-dependency and neonatal resuscitation certification (NRP) are the skills Gulf maternity units are short of.
- Tier-1 registration or experience (UK NMC, Australia, Ireland, Canada, the US) commonly brings exam exemption and a higher starting point.
- Government hospitals: packages beat private cash salaries once housing and gratuity are counted.
- Arabic: valued in antenatal education and community midwifery.
- Years and grade: charge midwife and midwifery educator posts sit 20 to 40% above the band.
Cost of living and savings
A midwife on AED 7,000 in Dubai with hospital accommodation typically saves AED 3,500 to 4,500 a month (about INR 84,000 to 108,000 or PHP 54,000 to 70,000); a midwife on SAR 6,500 in Riyadh with housing commonly saves SAR 3,500 to 4,500. Without provided housing, savings fall sharply in Dubai and Doha, so the housing clause matters more than the headline figure. The wider picture is in cost of living and savings and the salary calculator.
