Assistant Nurse Salary in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait 2026: What GNM, ANM and Diploma Nurses Earn as Assistant Nurses and Nurse Technicians per Month, by Employer, in AED, SAR, QAR, KWD, USD, INR and PHP, and How to Move to the Registered Nurse Band
What assistant nurses and nurse technicians earn in the Gulf in 2026: monthly tax-free salary bands for GNM, ANM and two-year diploma nurses licensed as assistant nurses (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman) or nurse technicians (Saudi Arabia) converted to USD, INR and PHP, how government, private hospital, clinic and home-care employers compare, which diploma is classified where, the assistant nurse Prometric exam, what housing and allowances add, and the bridging routes that lift a diploma nurse to the registered nurse band.
Not every nurse is licensed as a registered nurse in the Gulf. ANM holders, two-year diploma nurses and, in Saudi Arabia, GNM nurses are classified as assistant nurses or nurse technicians, sit a different Prometric exam and are paid on a lower band. The band is still three to five times what the same nurse earns at home, and many assistant nurses later bridge to the registered nurse band. This guide gives the 2026 assistant nurse bands by country and employer, explains which diploma lands where, and shows the way up. Registered nurse pay is in staff nurse salary by experience.

| Qualification | UAE (DHA, DOH, MOHAP) | Saudi Arabia (SCFHS) | Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait |
|---|---|---|---|
| BSc Nursing with registration and 2 years' experience | Registered Nurse | Nurse Specialist | Registered Nurse |
| GNM or three-year RN diploma with registration and 2 years' experience | Registered Nurse | Nurse Technician (lower band) | Registered Nurse at most authorities |
| ANM or two-year nursing diploma | Assistant Nurse | Nurse Technician or not eligible, depending on programme | Assistant or practical nurse where the title exists |
| Nursing assistant or caregiver certificate (under two years) | Usually not licensable as a nurse; home-care caregiver roles only | Not eligible | Not eligible |
The classification is decided at evaluation from the programme length, curriculum and registration, not from your job title at home; run the free eligibility check, and read the GNM nurses guide for the Saudi versus UAE difference.
The assistant nurse exam
Assistant nurses sit the assistant nurse paper (ARN5061 at DHA and equivalents elsewhere): about 100 to 150 MCQs in 2 to 3 hours with a pass mark of about 55 to 60%, covering fundamentals of nursing, basic medical-surgical care, vital signs and documentation, infection control, safety, drug administration at assistant level and basic maternal and paediatric care. Saudi Nurse Technicians sit the SNLE technician track. Prepare with the Assistant Nurse bank (chapter 1 free) and the free assistant nurse questions; the preparation plan is in assistant nurse exam preparation.
By employer type
| Employer | Where in the band | Package notes |
|---|---|---|
| Government hospitals (Saudi MOH as Nurse Technicians, Hamad and PHCC, Emirates Health Services, Dubai Health) | Upper half | Shared accommodation or allowance, transport, tickets, 30 to 45 days' leave, medical cover, gratuity |
| Private hospitals and clinics | Middle | Housing allowance common; assistant nurses in outpatient and ward support roles |
| Home care and elderly care agencies | Lower half to middle, often hourly | Largest and fastest-growing employer of assistant nurses in the UAE and Saudi Arabia; live-in roles include accommodation (home care nurse jobs) |
| School health, nurseries and corporate clinics | Lower half | Regular hours; often assistant nurse titles |
What an assistant nurse typically saves
An assistant nurse on AED 5,000 in Dubai with shared accommodation provided typically saves AED 2,500 to 3,200 a month (about INR 60,000 to 77,000 or PHP 39,000 to 50,000); renting privately cuts that to AED 1,000 to 1,800, which is why assistant nurses prefer offers with housing or posts in Sharjah and the Northern Emirates. A Saudi Nurse Technician on SAR 4,500 with provided accommodation sends home SAR 3,000 to 3,500. Qatar and Kuwait, with no VAT, leave an assistant nurse on the mid band with about 60 to 70% of salary when housing is provided. How to move from the assistant band to the registered nurse band
- GNM nurses: in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman you are already a registered nurse with two years' experience; in Saudi Arabia a post-basic BSc (bridging programme) lifts you from Nurse Technician to Nurse Specialist, roughly a 50% pay increase.
- ANM and two-year diploma nurses: complete a GNM or BSc through a recognised programme (several Indian and Filipino universities run bridging courses), then re-apply with the new qualification; experience as an assistant nurse in the Gulf counts.
- Keep registration current at home and document every unit worked with bed numbers, because the experience letters decide the classification.
- Choose the authority that classifies you highest: a GNM nurse earns the registered band in the UAE but the technician band in Saudi Arabia, a difference of about 40 to 60% (which UAE licence first).
