Home Care Nurse Jobs in Dubai and the UAE 2026: Licence Requirements, What the Work Involves, Salaries, the Best Employers to Look For, and Home Care vs Hospital Nursing

Home healthcare is one of the fastest-growing nursing sectors in the UAE. This 2026 guide explains the DHA, DOH and MOHAP licence home care nurses need, the difference between a licensed nurse and a caregiver, typical duties and shifts, salaries in AED, and how to judge a home care employer.

Home healthcare — nursing patients in their own homes — has grown fast in the UAE, driven by long-term care, post-operative recovery, elderly care and home ventilation. It is also one of the easier sectors for international nurses to enter. But there is a clear line between a licensed home care nurse and an unlicensed caregiver, and it decides your pay and your career.

If you are a qualified nurse, avoid caregiver visas: the experience will not count for a future licence or hospital move.

Licence requirements

Home care nurses need the same licence as hospital nurses — registered nurse or assistant nurse — from the regulator of the emirate where the provider operates:

That means DataFlow, the licensing exam and usually two years of experience. Diploma nurses are often licensed as assistant nurses, a title widely used in home care (assistant nurse exam). A valid BLS card is required (BLS requirements).

What the work involves

  • Long-term and elderly care — often 12-hour shifts with one patient, sometimes live-in.
  • Visiting nurse — several short visits a day for wound care, injections, catheter care and post-discharge checks.
  • Home ventilation and tracheostomy — specialised and paid at a premium; ICU experience is expected.
  • Paediatric home care — children with complex needs; PALS and paediatric experience valued.

Packages vary more than in hospitals: some include accommodation and transport, some pay per shift or per visit. Compare with hospital pay in nurse salary in Dubai and nurse salary in Abu Dhabi.

How to judge a home care employer

  • It is a licensed home healthcare provider and will sponsor your nursing licence, not a caregiver visa.
  • Clinical supervision and an on-call nurse supervisor are in place.
  • Shift length, rest days and transport are written in the contract.
  • Live-in arrangements state your private space and off-duty hours.
  • Malpractice cover is provided (malpractice insurance).

Home care vs hospital

Home care offers autonomy, one-to-one patient relationships and often quicker hiring. Hospitals offer team support, structured progression and specialty development. Many nurses start in home care, get the UAE licence and experience, and later move into hospitals — which works well as long as the home care job was under a nursing licence.
