How to Get a Dentist Job in Dubai and the UAE in 2026: Licence, Where Clinics Hire, Commission-Based Pay, CV, Interview Questions, Salary and Visa, Step by Step

A step-by-step plan for dentists who want to work in Dubai and the UAE in 2026: BDS and specialist eligibility, the DHA, DOH or MOHAP licence and dental exam, which clinics and hospitals hire, how commission-based pay works, CV and interview tips, salary in AED, INR, PKR and EGP, and the visa process.

Dubai has one of the densest private dental markets in the world: family clinics in every neighbourhood, aesthetic and implant centres, orthodontic practices and hospital dental departments. They hire licensed dentists all year, and many pay a share of what you bill on top of a basic salary. Here is how to get from BDS to your first chair in the UAE.

Step 1: Check your eligibility and title

TitleTypical requirement
General DentistRecognised BDS or DDS (usually five years), completed internship, about 2 years of clinical experience after internship
Specialist DentistRecognised postgraduate qualification (MDS, MSc, board or fellowship) in orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, paediatric dentistry, oral surgery and so on, plus post-qualification experience
Consultant DentistRecognised higher qualification and substantial specialist experience

You also need current registration with your home dental council and a Good Standing Certificate issued within six months. Fresh graduates straight after internship are usually not eligible. Run the free eligibility check; specialist recognition is explained in the specialist dentist guide.

Step 2: Choose the emirate, because it decides the licence

Dubai has the most dental vacancies, so it is the usual choice without an offer. A licence from one emirate does not cover another, though DataFlow work can be reused (transfer guide).

Step 3: Pass the dental exam and get eligibility

The general dentist exam is a computer-based paper of around 150 MCQs with clinical photographs and radiographs, pass mark about 60%. It covers restorative and endodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, oral surgery and oral medicine, paediatric dentistry and orthodontics, radiology, infection control and ethics. Prepare with the General Dentist question bank, the dentist sample questions with answers and the GCC dentist exam guide.

Clinics strongly prefer dentists who already hold a DHA eligibility letter, because they can activate the licence and start within weeks. Pass first, then apply.

Step 4: Know who hires dentists in Dubai

EmployerWhat to expect
Dental clinic chainsThe largest employers. Multiple branches, standard pricing, high patient volume, basic salary plus commission
Independent and boutique clinicsSmaller teams, often aesthetic, implant or orthodontic focus, pay closely tied to billing
Hospital dental departmentsGovernment and private hospitals, more structured hours and salary, often specialist roles
Dental centres inside polyclinics and medical groupsSteady general dentistry with insurance patients

Insurance matters: many Dubai patients use dental insurance, so clinics value dentists who can document treatment plans for approvals. Look for roles on the jobs board and join the dentist talent pool so clinics can find you.

Step 5: Understand commission-based pay

Most private clinics offer a basic salary plus a percentage of what you produce above a monthly target, commonly 30–40% of billing above the target. A busy general dentist can earn well above the basic. Before you sign, ask:

  • What is the monthly target and how is it calculated (billed or collected revenue)?
  • Is the commission on gross billing or after lab and material costs?
  • How many patients does the clinic currently see per dentist per day?
  • Are housing, transport, flights and malpractice insurance included?

Hospital roles pay a higher fixed salary with fewer incentives. Malpractice cover is explained in malpractice insurance in the UAE.

Step 6: Write a dental CV that gets interviews

  • Licence status first: "DHA General Dentist eligibility letter, valid until …".
  • Procedures with volumes: root canals, crowns, extractions, implants, aligners, paediatric cases per month.
  • Equipment and software: digital radiography, intraoral scanners, CAD/CAM, practice management systems.
  • Courses with dates: implantology, aligners, endodontics, aesthetic dentistry.
  • Languages: Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Russian and Tagalog all help in Dubai.

The general template is in CV for Gulf healthcare jobs.

Step 7: Prepare for the interview

  • "Walk me through your treatment plan for a patient with multiple carious lesions and limited budget."
  • "How do you handle a patient who wants veneers but has active periodontal disease?"
  • "What is your approach to a failed root canal?"
  • "How do you convert a consultation into an accepted treatment plan?"
  • "Describe your infection control routine between patients."

Many clinics ask for a portfolio of before-and-after cases, with patient consent. Some include a practical session. More questions are in GCC healthcare interview questions.

Step 8: Evaluate the offer

TitleMonthly (AED)USDINRPKREGP
General Dentist (basic salary)AED 12,000–25,000USD 3,270–6,810INR 287,500–599,000PKR 915,000–1,906,000EGP 160,000–333,500

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = AED 3.67, SAR 3.75, QAR 3.64, INR 88, PKR 280, PHP 57). Always go by the offer letter.

Specialists earn considerably more, and commission can add 30–100% on top of the basic in a busy clinic. Compare countries in dentist salary in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar and read what to check before accepting a job offer.

Step 9: Licence activation and visa

The clinic activates your DHA licence and applies for your entry permit. You complete the medical test, Emirates ID and residence visa, usually within 2–4 weeks of arrival (onboarding steps). Most clinics expect you to start seeing patients within the first week.
