What dentists earn in the Gulf in 2026: monthly tax-free ranges for general dentists in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, specialist dentist premiums, how fixed-plus-commission contracts work, and conversions to USD, INR, PKR and EGP.
Dentistry in the Gulf is mostly private practice, and that changes how pay works: many dentists earn a basic salary plus a share of what they bill. This guide sets out 2026 salaries for general and specialist dentists across the six GCC countries and explains how to judge a commission offer.

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = SAR 3.75, AED 3.67, INR 88, PKR 280, PHP 57). Always go by the offer letter.
Specialist dentists
Orthodontists, endodontists, prosthodontists, periodontists, paediatric dentists and oral surgeons typically earn 1.5 to 2.5 times a general dentist's figure, with orthodontics and implant-heavy prosthodontics at the top. A specialist title requires a recognised postgraduate qualification and post-specialty experience, and the exam is profession-specific — see Prometric exam for specialist dentists and oral and maxillofacial surgeons.
Fixed salary vs commission
- Fixed salary: common in government hospitals, military and university clinics, and some hospital dental departments. Predictable, with full benefits.
- Basic plus commission: the norm in private clinics, especially in the UAE. A typical deal is a guaranteed basic plus 30–40% of the dentist's collections above a target. A busy dentist can earn well above the ranges here; a new dentist in an oversupplied area may earn only the basic for months.
- Pure commission: no guarantee. Only accept this in a clinic with a proven patient base.
Before signing, ask: what is the guaranteed basic, is commission on billed or collected revenue, who pays lab fees and materials, how are insurance rejections treated, and how many patients does a dentist in the clinic see a day?
Where dentists do best
- UAE: the largest private market and the highest earning ceiling, but Dubai is competitive for general dentists. Sharjah and the Northern Emirates are easier to enter.
- Saudi Arabia: strong demand, many government and military positions on fixed salary, lower living costs.
- Qatar and Kuwait: high fixed salaries in government services, fewer private posts.
- Bahrain and Oman: smaller markets, faster licensing.
