Doctor Salary in Oman and Bahrain 2026: GP, Specialist and Consultant Pay in OMR and BHD, Government vs Private, and How They Compare with the UAE and Saudi Arabia

What doctors earn in Oman and Bahrain in 2026: monthly tax-free OMR and BHD ranges for GPs, specialists and consultants, Ministry of Health vs private employers, end-of-service rules, and conversions to USD, INR, PKR and EGP — plus why these smaller markets can still be the right first Gulf move.

Oman and Bahrain are the two smaller Gulf healthcare markets. Pay is lower than in the UAE or Qatar, but licensing is often faster and cheaper, living costs are lower, and both are a realistic first Gulf posting for doctors building GCC experience. Here is what doctors earn in 2026.

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = AED 3.67, SAR 3.75, QAR 3.64, INR 88, PKR 280, PHP 57). Always go by the offer letter.

Neither country levies personal income tax on salaries.

Who hires

  • Oman: Ministry of Health hospitals and regional health services, university and armed-forces hospitals, and a growing private sector in Muscat. Many government GP posts are filled by Omani doctors, so international demand is strongest for specialists and consultants, and for posts outside Muscat.
  • Bahrain: government hospitals and primary care, military and specialist hospitals, and private hospital groups. A single national regulator means one licence for the whole kingdom.

What moves the number

  • Experience: about 10% below the band early in a grade, 15% above at 6–10 years, 30% above beyond that.
  • Government employer: about 10% above private with stronger benefits.
  • Remote regions in Oman: postings outside Muscat often carry extra allowances.

The package and end of service

  • Housing or allowance, transport, annual tickets and medical cover are standard.
  • Oman: the 2023 labour law gives expatriate employees an end-of-service gratuity of one month's basic wage per year of service.
  • Bahrain: leaving indemnity is half a month per year for the first three years and a month per year after, now administered through the Social Insurance Organisation.

Confirm in the contract how gratuity is calculated and on which salary component.

How they compare

A consultant's band in Oman or Bahrain is roughly USD 7,800–14,600 a month, against higher ceilings in the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait (UAE, Qatar, Kuwait). Living costs, especially rent, are noticeably lower, which narrows the gap in savings (cost of living and savings).

Licensing

Oman licenses doctors through the Oman Medical Specialty Board and Ministry of Health; Bahrain through NHRA. Both use DataFlow and a Prometric exam with a 60% pass mark. See the NHRA and OMSB licence guide, Oman exam fees and NHRA exam fees, or join the Oman and Bahrain talent pools.
