Dentist Salary in Dubai 2026: General and Specialist Pay by Clinic Type, How Commission Really Works, Hospital vs Private, Cost of Living and What a Dentist Can Save

What dentists earn in Dubai in 2026 under a DHA licence: general dentist, specialist and consultant bands in AED, USD, INR, PKR and EGP by clinic type, how basic-plus-commission packages are calculated with a worked example, hospital versus private pay, the specialties that earn most, how Dubai compares with Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, cost of living and savings.

Dubai has one of the densest private dental markets in the world, and dentist pay there is unlike any other Gulf healthcare job: the basic salary is only part of the story, because most private clinics pay a share of billing. Two dentists with the same degree can earn AED 12,000 and AED 40,000 in the same month. This guide gives the bands by clinic type, shows how commission is calculated, and sets out what you can realistically save. The licensing route is in the DHA licence for dentists.

How commission really works: a worked example

A general dentist in a chain is offered a basic of AED 12,000, housing of AED 3,000, and 30% of collected billing above a target of AED 50,000 a month.

  • In a slow month billing AED 45,000, pay is AED 15,000 (basic plus housing), no commission.
  • In a normal month billing AED 80,000, commission is 30% of AED 30,000, which is AED 9,000, so total pay is AED 24,000.
  • In a strong month billing AED 120,000, commission is AED 21,000, so total pay is AED 36,000.

Before you sign, ask five questions: is commission on billed or collected revenue; are lab and material costs deducted before the percentage; what is the target and how is it adjusted; what is the current average billing per dentist at that branch; and how many patients a day does the clinic actually see. The answers decide whether the headline "up to AED 40,000" is realistic. The broader checklist is in what to check before accepting a job offer.

Which specialties earn most

  • Top: implantology and oral surgery, orthodontics (aligner volume), prosthodontics and aesthetic dentistry, where single cases bill AED 10,000 to 40,000.
  • Middle: endodontics and periodontics, steady referral-based work.
  • Paediatric dentistry: high volume, strong demand, often fixed salaries in hospitals.

Specialist recognition is explained in the specialist dentist guide.

Dubai compared with other markets

MarketGeneral dentist basic (mid band)Note
Dubai (DHA)AED 12,000 to 25,000Most clinics, highest commission upside, highest rent
Abu Dhabi (DOH)AED 12,000 to 25,000Fewer clinics, less competition, stronger government packages (DOH dentist licence)
Saudi Arabia (SCFHS)SAR 10,000 to 22,000Large chains, Saudisation limits some posts (Saudi route)
Qatar (QCHP)QAR 12,000 to 25,000Smaller market, strong government packages (Qatar route)

Cost of living and savings

A general dentist earning AED 22,000 on average (basic plus commission) and renting a one-bedroom flat at AED 5,000 to 7,000 typically spends AED 10,000 to 13,000 a month in total and saves AED 9,000 to 12,000 (about INR 216,000 to 288,000 or PKR 686,000 to 915,000). With employer housing, savings rise by AED 3,000 to 5,000. The wider picture is in cost of living and savings and the salary calculator. Malpractice cover is usually employer-paid; confirm it (malpractice insurance).

How to earn at the top of the band

  • Bring skills that bill: implants, aligners, aesthetic restorations and endodontics with a documented case portfolio.
  • Hold DHA eligibility before you apply: clinics pay more for a dentist who can start within weeks.
  • Negotiate the target, not just the percentage: a lower target with a lower percentage often pays more than a high percentage you never reach.
  • Build a patient base and languages: Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Russian and Tagalog all convert consultations.
