By grade
| Grade | Position vs paramedic band |
|---|---|
| Medical Emergency Responder / EMT-Basic | About 25–40% lower |
| Paramedic | The band above |
| Advanced Care Paramedic | About 15–25% higher |
| Critical Care / flight paramedic | About 25–40% higher |
Each grade has its own exam: EMT, paramedic, advanced care paramedic and critical care paramedic.
By employer
- National and emirate ambulance services — the largest employers in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Structured grades, shift allowances, accommodation and good leave.
- Oil, gas and industrial sites — remote rotations (for example 28 days on, 28 off) and some of the highest paramedic pay in the region.
- Private hospitals, events and air ambulance — wide range; air ambulance pays at the top for critical care paramedics.
By experience
- 0–2 years: about 10% below the band — and most authorities require two years' experience for the licence, so true entry posts are rare.
- 3–5 years: the band above.
- 6–10 years: about 15% above.
- 10+ years / senior or supervisor: about 30% above.
- Government employer: about 10% above private, with stronger benefits.
Certificates you will need
BLS, ACLS and PHTLS or ITLS are standard, with PALS for many services (BLS, ACLS and PALS requirements). A driving licence and, in the UAE, a local driving licence later are often required for road crews.
Getting licensed
Paramedics need DataFlow and a Prometric exam with each regulator — the route, eligibility and syllabus are in Prometric exam for paramedics and EMTs. Use the salary calculator to model an offer and the jobs board for live vacancies.
