How to Get a Nursing Job in Qatar in 2026: Step-by-Step from Eligibility and the Job Offer to DataFlow, the Prometric Exam, the Qatar Visa Centre and Your QID

The complete 2026 route for nurses moving to Qatar: eligibility, why the employer opens the licensing file, finding hospitals that hire, DataFlow, the Prometric nursing exam, licensing with the Department of Healthcare Professions, the Qatar Visa Centre, QID and arrival — with timelines and costs.

Qatar's nursing route has one feature that confuses many applicants: in most cases you cannot open the licensing file yourself. The hospital that hires you opens it. That means the order is different from Dubai — job first, then licence. Here is the full 2026 sequence.

Step 1: check you are eligible

  • Qualification: BSc Nursing or a recognised diploma (diploma nurses). Diploma holders are often licensed at a lower title.
  • Registration: current home registration and a Good Standing Certificate (guide).
  • Experience: usually two years after registration, recent and continuous (career gap rules).
  • English: IELTS or OET for many employers (requirements).

Run the free eligibility check to see your likely title.

Step 2: get your documents DataFlow-ready

Because the employer will submit your DataFlow request soon after the offer, prepare now: degree and transcripts, registration, experience letters in the right format (format guide), passport, and names that match on every document. A DataFlow report done for another GCC authority can often be reused (DataFlow guide).

Step 3: find the job

  • Government hospitals and primary care recruit through official campaigns, recruitment drives in source countries and licensed agencies.
  • Private hospitals hire directly, through agencies, and from candidate pools.
  • Interviews are usually online with clinical scenario questions — practise with GCC interview questions.

Step 4: the employer opens your licensing file

After the offer, the hospital opens your evaluation file with the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP, formerly QCHP) and pays the evaluation fee. DataFlow runs 6–10 weeks; the evaluation letter follows 1–3 weeks later.

Step 5: the Prometric nursing exam

With the evaluation letter you book the Qatar nursing exam at a Prometric centre — at home or in Doha. It is a 100–150 question MCQ exam with a 60% pass mark and an on-screen result. Fee: about USD 220–280. Prepare with the Qatar nursing exam guide, QCHP exam for nurses, sample questions and the 30-day plan. Full costs: Qatar exam fees.

Step 6: visa through the Qatar Visa Centre

The employer applies for your work visa. In the main source countries — including India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh — you attend a Qatar Visa Centre for biometrics, the medical examination and signing the employment contract. In other countries the medical is done after arrival.

Step 7: arrival, QID and licence

After arrival you complete any remaining medical, receive your Qatar ID (QID), and your licence is issued and linked to the hospital. Orientation and competency checks follow. The onboarding sequence across the Gulf is in after passing Prometric.

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply for a Qatar nursing licence without a job?

Usually not. Most overseas nursing files are opened by the hiring employer, so the offer comes first.

How long does it take to work in Qatar as a nurse?

About 4–6 months from offer to arrival, most of it DataFlow, the exam and the visa.

What is the Qatar nursing exam pass mark?

60%, on a 100–150 question Prometric MCQ exam.

Do nurses need IELTS for Qatar?

Not always for the licence, but many employers ask for IELTS or OET when hiring.

Do Qatari employers charge nurses recruitment fees?

They should not. Recruitment costs are the employer's responsibility; be cautious of anyone asking for large placement fees.
