How to Get a Nursing Job in Bahrain in 2026: Eligibility, Applying to NHRA Before an Offer, the Prometric Exam, Government vs Private Hospitals, Salary in BHD and Visa, Step by Step

A step-by-step plan for nurses who want to work in Bahrain in 2026: eligibility, why you can complete the NHRA evaluation and exam before you have an offer, the hospitals that hire, the Prometric exam, fees, salary in BHD, INR, PHP and PKR, and the visa and CPR process.

Bahrain is the fastest and cheapest Gulf licence for most nurses, and one of the few countries where you can finish the licensing process before you have a job offer. One regulator, the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), licenses every nurse in the kingdom through one portal. Here is how to turn that into a job.

Step 1: Check that you are eligible

  • Qualification: BSc Nursing for the Registered Nurse title. Diploma nurses can be considered under a lower title (GNM and diploma nurses).
  • Experience: two years of clinical experience after registration for a registered nurse. NHRA counts from registration, not graduation.
  • Registration: current home registration and a Good Standing Certificate issued within six months.
  • Extras: a valid BLS card, and documents with matching names.

Full licensing detail is in the NHRA licence for nurses. The free eligibility check confirms your title.

Step 2: Get exam-eligible before you apply for jobs

Unlike Kuwait, Qatar or Oman, NHRA lets you open your own file. That changes the strategy: complete the evaluation, DataFlow and the exam first, then apply. Bahraini hospitals search candidate pools for nurses who are already exam-eligible because they can start within weeks.

  1. NHRA e-services file. Choose Nursing and your title, upload documents and pay the evaluation fee. 1–3 days.
  2. DataFlow. 5–8 weeks. A report completed for another Gulf authority can often be reused (DataFlow guide).
  3. Evaluation and exam eligibility. 1–2 weeks.
  4. Prometric exam. 100–150 MCQs, 2–3 hours, pass mark 60%, bookable in Manama or at centres across India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Egypt and the UAE. 2–4 weeks to find a seat.
  5. Licence. Issued once a Bahraini facility sponsors you. 1–2 weeks.

A complete file takes about 8–14 weeks from upload to licence. Prepare with the NHRA exam for nurses page, the Registered Nurse bank and the nursing sample questions.

Step 3: Fees

Step 4: Know who hires nurses in Bahrain

EmployerWhat to expect
Government hospitals and health centresSalmaniya Medical Complex, the King Hamad University Hospital group and primary care centres. Pay towards the top of the band with strong benefits
Private hospitalsSeveral large private hospitals in Manama and the surrounding areas, often adding accommodation and transport, faster hiring
Specialist and long-term careDialysis, oncology, cardiac and rehabilitation units that pay a premium for experienced specialty nurses
Clinics and home careSmaller teams, steady demand for experienced general nurses

Hospitals recruit through agencies, direct campaigns and candidate databases. Join the Bahrain talent pool and check the jobs board. The broader picture is on the Bahrain country page.

Step 5: Understand the salary

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = BHD 0.376, INR 88, PHP 57, PKR 280). Always go by the offer letter.

Specialised nurses in ICU, operating theatre, NICU and dialysis earn 20–35% above the general band. Bahrain's cost of living is lower than Dubai's or Doha's, and Saudi Arabia is a short drive across the causeway. Compare in nurse salary in Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain or the salary calculator.

Step 6: CV, interview and offer

  • Put "NHRA exam passed, eligibility valid until …" at the top of the CV (CV guide).
  • Expect online clinical interviews with scenario questions (interview questions).
  • Check accommodation or allowance, transport, flights, leave and gratuity before you sign (offer checklist).

Step 7: Visa and CPR card

Once you accept, the employer sponsors your licence and work visa. On arrival you complete the medical test and receive your CPR (Bahrain identity) card. Family sponsorship depends on salary thresholds (family visa rules).
