How experience is counted
- From registration, not graduation. Experience begins on the date your nursing council or medical council registered you.
- Internship does not count for nurses in the UAE and Qatar. For doctors, the compulsory internship year is required before the experience clock starts.
- Clinical, full-time, in a hospital or licensed facility. Clinic, home-care, teaching and part-time work are often discounted or excluded.
- Documented. A letter in the accepted format with dates, unit and bed capacity (format guide). Unverifiable experience is treated as none.
Routes open to a fresh graduate today
1. Saudi Arabia (the main route)

2. Kuwait MOH campaigns

3. Residency and training programmes
Doctors can enter the GCC through residency: Saudi Board programmes (via SMLE score), the UAE's EMREE-based residency entry, Qatar's HMC residency (via USMLE/other). These do not require prior experience and lead to a Specialist title. The EMREE practice bank covers the UAE entrance exam.
4. Assistant / technician grades
Some regulators license Assistant Nurse or technician titles with less experience. The pay is lower and upgrading later requires re-licensing, so this is a fallback, not a plan.
The fastest plan to qualify for the UAE or Qatar
- Month 0: register with your home council the week results are out. Every week of delay is a week off the clock.
- Months 0–24: take a full-time acute-care post — ICU, ER, OR, medical-surgical wards. Specialty experience is what UAE and Qatar employers shortlist for.
- Month 12: start Saudi Arabia in parallel if you want to be in the Gulf sooner; Saudi experience counts fully toward the UAE two-year rule and adds a GCC licence to your file.

What not to do
