By modality
| Modality | Position vs general band | Why |
|---|---|---|
| General X-ray | Lower to middle | Largest number of candidates |
| CT | Middle to upper | Contrast and trauma work, on-call |
| MRI | Upper | Fewer trained staff, safety competence required |
| Ultrasound / sonography | Upper | Often licensed as a separate title with its own premium |
| Interventional / cath lab, mammography, nuclear medicine | Upper, often above | Specialised and short-staffed |
Documented modality experience — log books, certificates, employer letters naming the modality — is what earns the premium. Put it in your experience letters before DataFlow (format guide).
By experience and employer
- 0–2 years: about 10% below the band — and most authorities require two years' experience for the licence, so true entry posts are rare.
- 3–5 years: the band above.
- 6–10 years: about 15% above.
- 10+ years / senior or supervisor: about 30% above.
- Government employer: about 10% above private, with stronger benefits.
Technician vs technologist
A diploma usually leads to a radiography technician title and a bachelor's degree to radiographer or radiology technologist, with a gap of about 20–30% in pay. The title follows the qualification, so check where you fit with the eligibility check.
Getting licensed
Every regulator requires DataFlow and a Prometric radiography exam. The syllabus, eligibility and pass marks are in Prometric exam for radiographers, with practice on the radiographer exam bank. Authority pages: DHA, SCFHS, QCHP. Radiographers can join the radiographer talent pool, and the salary calculator models an offer.
