“How much does the Prometric exam cost?” is the second question every candidate asks — right after “can I pass it?”. The honest answer is that the exam fee is only about a third of what you will actually spend. This guide lays out every line item for each GCC authority so you can budget the whole journey, not just the test.
All figures are approximate 2026 ranges converted to US dollars. Authorities revise fees without much notice, so treat these as planning numbers and confirm the exact amount on the official portal at the moment you pay.
The four costs in every GCC licence
- Primary Source Verification (DataFlow) — verifying your degree, licence and experience letters. Typically USD 300–650 depending on how many documents you submit; every extra document adds roughly USD 40–90.
- Application / evaluation fee — paid to the authority when you open your file. Usually the smallest item: USD 30–120.
- Prometric (or Pearson VUE) exam fee — paid when you schedule. Broadly USD 230–500, higher for consultant-level exams.
- Licence issuance / activation — paid once you have a job offer and the facility activates your licence. Often the biggest single cost: USD 270–1,100, and frequently paid by the employer.

DHA (Dubai Health Authority)

Kuwait MOH
Kuwait is almost always employer-driven: the hospital sponsors the file and typically pays exam and licence fees. Budget for DataFlow (approx. USD 300–500) and attestation yourself. More in our Kuwait guide.
Hidden costs nobody budgets for
- Rescheduling — Prometric charges a change fee (roughly USD 50–60) if you move your date inside the notice window; a no-show forfeits the whole fee.
- Retakes — every attempt is a full exam fee. A single fail can add USD 300 and two months. That is why we tell candidates to prepare to pass first time.
- Document re-verification — DataFlow reports are shared across GCC authorities through the “DataFlow transfer” service, but adding a new authority still costs a transfer fee.
- Currency and card fees — international card payments on the Prometric portal often carry a 2–4% bank surcharge.
- Attestation — Saudi and Kuwait frequently require embassy-attested degrees. Attestation chains can run USD 100–300 per document.
How to spend less
- Verify once, apply to many. Complete DataFlow for the authority most likely to hire you, then transfer the report rather than re-verifying.
- Pick the cheapest entry authority that fits your career plan. MOHAP, NHRA and OMSB are the low-cost on-ramps; GCC experience then makes DHA or SCFHS easier later.
