How to Get an Occupational Therapist Job in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar in 2026: Licensing and the ORA5562 Exam, Rehab, Paediatric and Autism Centres That Hire, CV, Interview, Salary and Visa, Step by Step

A step-by-step plan for occupational therapists who want to work in the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Qatar in 2026: which degree gets the OT or OT assistant title, DHA, SCFHS and QCHP licensing and the Prometric exam, rehabilitation hospitals, paediatric and autism centres, mental health and home care employers, CV and interview tips, salary in AED, SAR, QAR, INR, PKR and PHP, and the visa process.

Occupational therapy is one of the fastest-growing allied professions in the Gulf: national autism and disability strategies, new rehabilitation hospitals, long-term care, and a mental health expansion all need OTs, and the supply is small. Candidates from India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Egypt and the UK fill most posts. This guide covers the title, the licence, the employers and the job search.

Step 1: Know which title your degree gets

QualificationUsual Gulf titleExam
Bachelor's in occupational therapy (BOT or BSc OT) with supervised fieldwork, plus about two years of experienceOccupational TherapistORA5562
Master's entry-level OT degreeOccupational TherapistORA5562
Diploma in occupational therapy or OT assistant programmeOccupational Therapy AssistantORA5563
Degrees in rehabilitation science without OT fieldworkUsually not accepted for the OT title

Registration with your home council (AIOTA, WFOT-recognised programmes, PRC for the Philippines) strengthens classification. Run the free eligibility check. Exam detail is in the occupational therapist exam guide.

Step 2: Get licensed in your target country

CountryRoute
UAE (Dubai)DHA: Sheryan, DataFlow, Prometric exam; you can finish before an offer
UAE (Abu Dhabi, Northern Emirates)DOH (Pearson VUE) or MOHAP (Prometric)
Saudi ArabiaSCFHS: Mumaris+ classification, DataFlow, classification exam
QatarQCHP/DHP: employer-opened file, DataFlow, Prometric exam

The exam is 100 to 150 MCQs over 2 to 3 hours on assessment, neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation, hand therapy, paediatrics, mental health, cognition and assistive technology, pass mark about 50 to 55%. Prepare with the Occupational Therapist bank and the sample questions. Holding eligibility before you apply makes you a fast hire.

Step 3: Know who hires occupational therapists

EmployerWhat they want
Rehabilitation hospitals and hospital rehab departments (government and private)Stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, orthopaedic and ICU early rehabilitation; outcome measures; splinting
Paediatric therapy, autism and special needs centresThe largest growth area; sensory processing, school-based OT, early intervention; many posts for female therapists
Hand therapy clinics and orthopaedic centresPost-surgical hand protocols, splint fabrication
Mental health servicesPsychiatric rehabilitation, group work, vocational rehabilitation
Home care and long-term careElderly, dementia and post-discharge rehabilitation; home assessments
Schools and inclusion programmesSchool OT under education and health partnerships

Join the GCC talent pool with your target countries and specialties, and watch the jobs board. Saudi government hospitals and disability centres recruit through approved agencies; UAE and Qatar centres hire directly and through agencies.

Step 4: CV and interview

  • Lead with licence status, then settings, caseload by condition, assessments used (COPM, FIM, Barthel, sensory profiles, developmental scales), splinting skills and any certifications (sensory integration, hand therapy, neuro-rehabilitation courses).
  • Expect cases on stroke upper limb rehabilitation, neglect, a child with autism and sensory issues, a carpal tunnel splint, dementia care strategies and a home assessment after hip fracture (interview questions). Paediatric centres may ask you to demonstrate a session.
  • Arabic is a strong advantage in paediatric and mental health roles.

A template is in CV for Gulf hospital jobs.

Step 5: Understand the salary

CountryOccupational therapist, monthly (local)USDINRPKRPHP
UAEAED 6,500 to 13,000USD 1,770 to 3,540INR 156,000 to 312,000PKR 496,000 to 991,000PHP 101,000 to 202,000
Saudi ArabiaSAR 6,000 to 12,000USD 1,600 to 3,200INR 141,000 to 282,000PKR 448,000 to 896,000PHP 91,000 to 182,000
QatarQAR 7,000 to 13,000USD 1,920 to 3,570INR 169,000 to 314,000PKR 538,000 to 1,000,000PHP 110,000 to 204,000

Approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3 to 5 year) occupational therapist, estimated from the physiotherapist bands in our salary data, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen; OT assistants are usually offered 30 to 40% less. Fixed rates (USD 1 = AED 3.67, SAR 3.75, QAR 3.64, INR 88, PKR 280, PHP 57). Always go by the offer letter.

Government rehabilitation hospitals add housing or an allowance, tickets and gratuity; paediatric and autism centres sometimes pay above the band for sensory integration or hand therapy certification. Compare with physiotherapy in physiotherapist salary, and check the offer against what to check before accepting.

Step 6: Visa and arrival

After the offer, the employer activates or links your licence and issues the work visa; you complete the medical and residence permit within a few weeks of arrival (onboarding steps). Family sponsorship thresholds are met by most OTs in the UAE and Saudi Arabia (family visa rules).
