How to Get a Nursing Job in Kuwait in 2026: Eligibility, Government vs Private Hospitals, Safe Recruitment, Attestation, the MOH Exam, Salary and Visa, Step by Step

A step-by-step plan for nurses who want to work in Kuwait in 2026: eligibility and experience, Ministry of Health vs private and oil-sector hospitals, how to avoid recruitment scams, the attestation chain, DataFlow, the Kuwait MOH Prometric exam, salary in KWD, INR and PHP, and the residency process.

Kuwait has employed international nurses for decades, and its hospitals still depend on them. Pay is strong because the Kuwaiti dinar is the world's highest-valued currency. The route is different from the UAE, though: the job comes first. A Kuwaiti employer opens your licensing file, so the order in which you do things matters more here than anywhere else in the Gulf.

Step 1: Check that you are eligible

  • Qualification: a BSc Nursing is preferred, especially for government posts. Diploma nurses (such as GNM) are accepted for some roles, mostly in the private sector (GNM nurses in the Gulf).
  • Experience: usually at least two years after registration, counted from the end of internship or registration, not from graduation.
  • Registration: current licence with your home nursing council and a Good Standing Certificate issued within six months.
  • Extras: BLS, and often IELTS or OET for private hospitals (English requirements).

The full licensing rules are in the Kuwait MOH licence for nurses. The free eligibility check tells you where you stand.

Step 2: Choose the type of employer

EmployerWhat to expect
Ministry of Health hospitals and clinicsThe largest employer. Recruitment happens in drives, often through government-approved channels in your home country. Strong benefits and job security, slower hiring.
Oil-sector medical servicesLimited openings, competitive, with very good packages.
Private hospitals and clinicsHire all year and move faster. Pay varies more, and English tests are more often required.

Government postings depend on staffing quotas. Before you pay for anything, ask the employer to confirm in writing that a post exists for your cadre.

Step 3: Recruit safely

Kuwait nurse recruitment has a long history of fraud, so follow your own country's rules exactly:

  • India: nurses with ECR passports need emigration clearance through the eMigrate system. Kuwait MOH recruitment drives in India have usually been run through state-run agencies such as NORKA Roots or ODEPC. Check eMigrate for the current list of authorised channels.
  • Philippines: go through an agency licensed by the Department of Migrant Workers and get your Overseas Employment Certificate before you fly.
  • Everywhere: never pay large "visa" or "placement" fees in cash, and never hand over original certificates to an agent you cannot verify. Licensing eligibility comes from Kuwait MOH, not from an agency.

Step 4: Start attestation early

Kuwait is strict about the attestation chain for your nursing degree. It usually runs through your home Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Kuwait embassy in the country that issued the degree, then the Kuwait Ministry of Foreign Affairs after arrival. An apostille on its own is not enough. Some embassies take three to four weeks, so start as soon as you have an offer.

Step 5: DataFlow and the Kuwait MOH exam

  1. DataFlow verification of your degree, registration and experience. Usually 6–10 weeks (DataFlow guide).
  2. Evaluation and eligibility, 2–3 weeks.
  3. The Prometric exam: 100–150 MCQs over 2–3 hours, pass mark 60%, bookable at Prometric centres in India, the Philippines, Egypt and the Gulf.

Prepare with the Kuwait MOH exam for nurses page, the Registered Nurse question bank, nursing questions with answers and high-yield nursing topics. Fees are in Kuwait Prometric exam fees 2026.

Step 6: Understand the salary

TitleMonthly (KWD)USDINRPHPPKR
Registered NurseKWD 450–800USD 1,470–2,610INR 129,000–229,500PHP 83,500–148,500PKR 410,500–729,500
MidwifeKWD 400–700USD 1,300–2,280INR 114,500–200,500PHP 74,500–130,000PKR 365,000–638,500
Nurse Technician / Assistant NurseKWD 300–550USD 980–1,790INR 86,000–157,500PHP 55,500–102,000PKR 273,500–501,500

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = KWD 0.307, INR 88, PHP 57, PKR 280). Always go by the offer letter.

Government posts usually add about 10% and stronger benefits, such as housing or a housing allowance, an annual ticket and long leave. A dinar salary looks small on paper: KWD 600 is roughly USD 1,950. Compare Kuwait with other Gulf countries in nurse salary in Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain or model an offer in the salary calculator.

Step 7: Licence, residency and family

Licence issuance runs alongside your work visa, medical test, fingerprints and civil ID, usually 3–6 weeks after arrival. From offer to licence, allow 4–6 months in total. Sponsoring your family in Kuwait needs a salary threshold (recently KWD 800) and a university degree, which many staff nurses do not meet. Senior and specialised nurses are more likely to qualify (family visa rules).
