How to Get a Doctor Job in Kuwait in 2026: GP, Specialist and Consultant Eligibility, Ministry of Health vs Private Hospitals, Attestation, the MOH Exam, Salary in KWD and Residency, Step by Step

A step-by-step plan for doctors who want to work in Kuwait in 2026: GP, specialist and consultant eligibility, why the employer opens the licensing file, Ministry of Health, oil-sector and private hospitals, degree attestation, DataFlow, the Kuwait MOH Prometric exam, fees, salary in KWD, INR, PKR and EGP, and residency.

Kuwait pays doctors in the world's highest-valued currency, runs a large Ministry of Health hospital network and has a private sector that has grown quickly in recent years. The catch is the order of events: the job comes first. A Kuwaiti employer opens your licensing file, so you cannot get licensed in advance the way you can in Dubai or Bahrain. Here is how to work with that.

Step 1: Check your eligibility and grade

GradeTypical requirement
General PractitionerRecognised MBBS/MD, internship, about 2 years of clinical experience after internship
Specialist (Registrar / Senior Registrar)Recognised postgraduate qualification (MD, MS, FCPS, MRCP, Arab Board and similar) plus post-qualification experience
ConsultantRecognised higher qualification and substantial experience at specialist level

Kuwait MOH classifies on the qualification, and some specialist and consultant applications go to an interview or committee review rather than the written exam. Check your degree in postgraduate recognition and run the free eligibility check. The full licensing route is in the Kuwait MOH licence guide.

Step 2: Know who hires doctors in Kuwait

EmployerWhat to expect
Ministry of Health hospitals and polyclinicsThe largest employer: general hospitals in each governorate, specialised hospitals and primary care centres. Recruitment in drives and through approved channels, strong benefits, slower hiring
Oil-sector medical servicesKuwait Oil Company and related facilities. Limited openings, very good packages
Private hospitals and clinicsHire all year and move faster. Packages vary more; insurance-based practice

Government hiring depends on quotas for your specialty, so ask the employer to confirm in writing that a post exists before you pay for anything. Join the Kuwait talent pool and the doctor talent pool so Kuwaiti employers can find you, and watch the jobs board.

Step 3: Recruit safely

  • Licensing eligibility comes from Kuwait MOH, not from an agency. Never pay for "eligibility".
  • Do not pay large visa or placement fees in cash, and do not hand original certificates to an agent you cannot verify.
  • Indian doctors with ECR passports need emigration clearance through eMigrate. Check the current rules before you accept.

Step 4: Start attestation early

Kuwait is strict about the attestation chain for your medical degree and postgraduate certificates: home Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the Kuwait embassy in the country that issued the degree, then Kuwait MOFA after arrival, usually through the employer's representative. An apostille alone is not accepted. Some embassies take three to four weeks, so start as soon as you have an offer. The full process is in certificate attestation for GCC licensing.

Step 5: DataFlow, evaluation and the exam

  1. Employer opens the MOH file. 1–3 weeks.
  2. DataFlow verification of degree, internship, registration, postgraduate certificates and experience. 6–10 weeks (DataFlow guide).
  3. Evaluation and exam eligibility. 2–3 weeks.
  4. Prometric exam for GPs and most specialists: around 150 MCQs over about 3 hours, pass mark 60%, bookable at Prometric centres in India, Pakistan, Egypt and the Gulf. 2–5 weeks. Some senior grades are assessed by interview instead.
  5. Licence and residency, running partly in parallel: 3–6 weeks.

Allow 4–6 months from offer to licence. Prepare with the Kuwait MOH exam for doctors page, the General Practice bank and the high-yield GP topics.

Step 6: Fees

All figures are approximate 2026 ranges, converted at fixed rates (USD 1 = KWD 0.307, INR 88, PKR 280, EGP 49). Authorities change fees without notice and your bank adds its own card charge, so confirm the amount on the official portal at the moment you pay.

Add attestation, translation and courier costs. The full breakdown is in Kuwait Prometric exam fees 2026.

Step 7: Understand the salary

Salaries are approximate 2026 monthly, tax-free ranges for a mid-experience (3–5 year) hire, blended from published pay scales, recruiter ranges and offers our placement team has seen. Home-currency figures use fixed rates (USD 1 = KWD 0.307, INR 88, PKR 280, EGP 49). Always go by the offer letter.

Ministry of Health packages add housing or an allowance, annual tickets and long leave. KWD 2,000 is roughly USD 6,500, which is why Kuwait competes with the UAE despite smaller-looking numbers. Detail by grade is in doctor salary in Kuwait; model an offer in the salary calculator.

Step 8: CV, interview and family

  • Lead the CV with your grade, postgraduate qualification and procedures or caseload (CV guide).
  • Interviews are clinical and often by committee for specialists (interview questions).
  • Most doctors meet Kuwait's salary and degree thresholds to sponsor family (family visa rules).
