Frequently Asked

GCC medical licensing, answered

The questions we get asked most, answered straight. For regulator- specific detail, see the authority comparison.

What does Prometric Medical Consultancy actually do?

We handle GCC medical licensing end to end for healthcare professionals. That covers three things: regulator applications (DHA, DOH, MOHAP, SHA, DCAS, SCFHS, QCHP, NHRA, OMSB and Kuwait MOH), Prometric exam preparation through authority-specific question banks, and placement into partner hospitals across the Gulf. We are a consultancy, not a regulator — we prepare and submit your file, the authority issues the licence.

How long does GCC medical licensing take?

Typically 8 to 16 weeks from a complete file to an issued licence. Dataflow primary source verification is the longest single step at 4 to 8 weeks, because it involves your university, licensing council and past employers responding directly. Missing or unattested documents are the most common cause of delay, which is why we audit the document set before anything is submitted.

Which GCC licence should I apply for?

It depends on the emirate or country you intend to work in, because each licence is valid only in its own jurisdiction. A DHA licence covers Dubai, DOH covers Abu Dhabi, MOHAP covers the northern emirates, SCFHS covers Saudi Arabia, and so on. Our eligibility check tells you which authorities you already qualify for based on your qualification and years of experience.

Do I need to travel to the Gulf to sit the licensing exam?

Usually no. Most GCC authorities deliver their licensing exams through Prometric, which has test centres worldwide, so you can sit the exam in your home country. You only need to be in the country once an employer sponsors your licence activation and residency.

What is Dataflow and why does everyone mention it?

Dataflow is primary source verification. Rather than trusting the copies you upload, the regulator pays Dataflow to contact your university, your home licensing council and your previous employers directly and confirm each document is genuine. Almost every GCC authority requires it before issuing an eligibility ID, and the report can often be reused if you later apply to a second authority.

Do you find jobs as well as licences?

Yes. Candidates who register for our Talent Pool are matched against live vacancies at partner hospitals across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait. Licensing and placement are separate services — you can use either on its own.

How much does the whole process cost?

The regulator, Dataflow and Prometric charges are set by third parties and vary by authority — each authority page carries an indicative fee breakdown in USD. Our own consultancy fee is quoted after the eligibility check, once we know which pathway applies and how much of the file already exists.
